TSG Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Bursary

The TSG Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) bursary aims to provide additional financial assistance, up to £500 per awardee, to support geoscientists with primary caring responsibilities, additional needs, or who are experiencing a career transition, to attend the next TSG annual meeting in person. Up to two awards will be offered each year.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicant must be planning to attend and present (oral or poster) at the upcoming TSG annual meeting in person.
  • Applicant must meet one of the following criteria:
    • Caregiving responsibilities: geoscientist with primary caregiving responsibilities, for whom attending TSG would incur additional costs related to e.g. childcare for dependent children, elderly family members, or individuals with disabilities.
    • Disability and special needs: geoscientist with disabilities or special assistance needs, who may incur additional costs when attending the TSG annual meeting.
    • Career transitions: geoscientists between academic or industry positions who are not financially supported to attend a TSG conference. This award can only be made once per applicant under this criterion.

Eligible candidates may request financial support up to £500 for one or more of the following categories:

  • Travel Support
  • To cover travel expenses of one essential caregiver accompanying the participant.
  • To cover travel expenses of bringing along a dependent child when no alternative care is available.
  • Expenses for transporting and/or hiring necessary medical equipment required by the participant.
  • To cover travel expenses of the participant if they are not in the financial position to support their conference attendance.
  • Home-Help Support: Financial support for hiring one home-help person to assist in caring for a dependent while the applicant is attending the TSG annual meeting.
  • Accommodation Support: Financial assistance for accessible or specialized accommodation required due to disability or special needs.
  • Additional Childcare Support: Subsidies for childcare services at the conference venue or in the participant’s home location.
  • Accessibility Support: Financial support for the purchase or rental of assistive technology or equipment necessary to facilitate participation for individuals with disabilities or special assistance needs.
  • Other Support Requirements: to facilitate conference attendance, which would otherwise not be possible.

How to Apply

Eligible candidates should complete the EDI Bursary Application Form and send the completed form to the TSG Secretary.

The application form requires a supporting statement and the title and abstract of the intended presentation (poster or talk). Allocation of funds is primarily made based on the supporting statement.

Application deadline: 25th September. The TSG secretary will notify you of the committee’s decision within 4 weeks of the deadline.

In exceptional circumstances late applications will be considered at the discretion of the committee.

Conditions

  • Financial support will be withdrawn, or returned to TSG, if the applicant withdraws from the conference.
